Winter begins to fade
The cold days wane while the nights yet linger
The moments become rarer,
Where sound travels further.
Those echoes on the cold empty air
Unobstructed by light, warmth, and life.
Here on one of those final cold days
I stand so close to you
I have to wonder
Can you not hear my heart crack?
I seek that light, warmth, and life.
I know it’s there with you.
Yet lately, there is only the cold empty air.
Free to carry that sound.
The sound of my heart cracking
Like the snap of a frozen branch.
